What the rules say
Ontario's regulated online gambling market opened on April 4, 2022. Two bodies share the work. iGaming Ontario conducts and manages online gambling offered by private operators. The Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario, the AGCO, regulates it.
For a private online casino, the rule is short. It is legal in Ontario only with AGCO registration and an operating agreement with iGaming Ontario. Both are required, not one or the other.
OLG.ca works on a different footing. It is Ontario's government-run online casino, conducted and managed by OLG itself. On land, OLG also conducts and manages casino gaming, including at Cascades Casino Chatham on Richmond Street.
How to check a site
The official list of regulated online gambling sites is the iGaming Ontario directory at igamingontario.ca. If a site is missing from it, it is not part of the regulated market. Online play on those sites is 19+ and allowed only while you are physically in Ontario.
BetGuard, at betguard.ca, is run by iGaming Ontario. It lets a person 19 or older exclude themselves from every regulated Ontario online gambling site at once, OLG.ca included. Terms run 6 months, 1 year, 5 years or a custom length. It does not cover land-based casinos such as the one on Richmond Street.
How this guide's paid links work
Only the home page of this guide carries paid links, and each one is marked Ad. They lead to a private online casino partner. That partner is not named here, and it can change.
The guide does not vouch for it. Check that partner, or any online casino, against the iGaming Ontario directory. It has no connection with the casino on Richmond Street, Gateway, OLG or iGaming Ontario. Links to the casino, OLG, the province and help services are never paid.
ConnexOntario helps anyone in Ontario with questions about gambling, mental health or addiction. It answers at no cost, confidentially, 24/7. Call 1-866-531-2600, text CONNEX to 247247, or chat at connexontario.ca.
